Who We Are

What’s holding you back?

The fear of transition is real. It’s manageable. Clients may ask questions; you’ll have answers. Will some accounts or clients choose not to join? He're what we have experienced: More than 90% of independent advisors’ books move with the advisor.

Advisors who thrive after a transition tend to share a few things in common: they were clear on why they were leaving, they had a practice built around client relationships rather than platform dependency, and they moved toward something.

What makes SFA Partners seem like the right fit

How long does a transition take?

Generally, we consider a transition period to be 90 days from affiliation. A number of factors come into play including, client count, access to approved client information, availability of the advisor and their support staff, and the “runway” time for preparation. However, it is common for the vast majority or all of the transition to occur within 60 days of affiliation.

Will my clients notice a disruption?

Some adjustment is normal in any transition as they establish new accounts or utilize a new custodian. SFA Partners' team focuses on minimizing that disruption, and arming advisors with means of keeping clients informed of the progress and benefits of the move.

What happens to assets that doesn't transfer easily, like proprietary or non-portable products?

SFA Partners' transition team helps you think through what transfers, what doesn't, and how to handle legacy business so nothing falls through the cracks.

Can I move brokerage and fee-based business at the same time?

Yes. Hybrid transitions are managed so both sides of the book stay intact and clients stay informed throughout.

Common starting points

Many advisors arrive at SFA Partners after concluding that the large firms they once chose for independence no longer feel independent. Others come from independent practices or their own RIAs and are seeking additional support, resources, and a community of like-minded advisors. Regardless of where they start, they are often looking for the same thing: the added support to allow them to focus on what they most love, serving clients and helping people.

Each of those transitions has a different shape. SFA Partners has handled all of them. While Benko came for the RIA infrastructure, the environment and culture were the fit he had been looking for.

Changing firms is a major decision. Whether an advisor is moving from one broker-dealer to another, from one RIA to another, or weighing a different affiliation model altogether, the stakes are high. Compensation, technology, transition support, client experience. All of it matters. But "fit" is harder to pin down.
